Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested one Mamuda Abubakar, a 30-year-old resident of Abbo in Giade local government of the state for allegedly tying his 6-year-old son, Adamu Mamuda with a chain inside a room at their residence to prevent him from going to his maternal grandfather’s house.

Bauchi State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, in a statement on Monday, said the arrest was part of the efforts to prevent child and women abuse.

SP Wakil said the police received the report on child abuse on July, 7 2024 after which a team of detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene and rescued the victim.

He said investigation revealed that the suspect and the minor’s mother separated five years ago, and the mother has since remarried and no longer lives with her father.

According to the statement, the suspect explained that his son should not visit the grandfather’s house for allegedly lacking morality among the children there.

However, when the son insisted on going to his grandfather’s house, the suspect became furious and ultimately chained the minor.

He added that the suspect is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), at the state headquarters, Bauchi.

The statement further assured that the Bauchi State Police Command remained committed to the protection of all citizens, especially vulnerable children and urged the public to report any incidents of abuse or maltreatment to the nearest police station.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed urged the public to support the police with useful information that will help in identifying the remaining culprits.
